James and I have been backwards and forwards about what to do with regards to our wedding during this global pandemic. Do we postpone in the hopes that things settle down next year? Or do we go ahead with the wedding and adhere to the president’s rules and regulations regarding social gatherings. We have guests coming from overseas as well, as a guest list that exceeds the 50 people limit.  James and I, regardless of what the pandemic throws at us now, have decided that we could not wait any longer to get married. We have already been engaged for 15 months and we are beyond excited to start this new journey together.

Last night, 16 September 2020, the president addressed the nation and put our minds at ease and made our hearts incredibly happy. International travel will be resuming before the wedding and although we can have more guests than expected, we did have to cut our lists down from the original list we made at the end of last year. But If the corona virus has taught us anything it’s to never take anything for granted and be thankful for what we have. Thank you, Cyril!

This year has been an incredibly difficult year for everyone, and we cannot wait to celebrate and party until the early hours of the morning!

We are very blessed to have two incredible families that we can share life’s beautiful moments with. James and I are very family orientated and we want to include our families in our wedding celebrations as much as possible. When deciding on a wedding date, James and I were quite sold on getting married in December. After some investigation we realised that my grandparents (my Mom’s parents – Werner & Ingeborg Billekens) got married on the 12th of December 1959. With my parents being married on my other grandparents’ (my Dad’s parents – Roy & Mary Patrick) wedding date of the 31st of January, we felt that there was no better date to get married on, than the same day as my grandparents’s Billikens wedding date.

We have incredible role models to look up to and we can only hope that we are able to love each other and build an incredible future for our children and grandchildren as they all once did.
